Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand in terms of population and also in terms of land-area.  It boasts of a wide number of wineries across its various wine regions: West Auckland is the most established with top names like Kumeu River, Westbrook and Cooper's Creek with Chardonnay the king. IFurther North, in Matakana one can find interesting Italian varieties and wines that are modelled on Bordeaux Claret.  Waiheke Island, but a 35 minute ferry ride from Auckland heading East, is well-known for its Bordeaux blends, Chardonnay and Syrah.
