Monica is a red grape varietal from the island of Sardinia off the coast of central Italy. It is believed that Monica was originally a Spanish varietal that was brought over to Italy, and Sardinia in particular, during the reign of Aragon somewhere over the course of 1323-1720.

Monica is solely found on Sardinia and has yet to make it to the mainland. It is planted all across the island where it is used for both single varietal wines as well as in blends with other local grapes.
