The Sadie Family Winery

The Sadie Family winery is headed by Eben Sadie. Eben is considered to be one of the absolute leaders of the new generation of South African winemakers. He is a visionary that is trying to put not just put the region he grows in, Swartland, on the map but also South Africa. He is producing wines that are true expressions of grapes, soils and regions with all of the wines made being highly coveted and extraordinarily good. Eben Sadie founded the winery in 1999 and has been making incredible wines ever since.

--------THE GRAPE--------

Semillon

Semillon is a white grape varietal that hails from Bordeaux, France. Here it is best known for being blended with Sauvignon Blanc, often being the main component in the blend, where it makes crisp white wines as well as the luscious sweet wines of Sauternes. It is in the Hunter Valley of Australia where is has found a home as an age-worthy dry white wine. You can expect waxy, lemon and stonefruit flavours off of Semillon wines, sweet or dry.

--------THE REGION--------

Swartland

Swartland is a small area that is just north of the Paarl district. It is surrounded by mountains - the most famous of which is the Paardeberg. It has quite a varied topography with shallow valleys and high slopes in the foothills of the mountains which allows for a wide variety of wines to be made here. Overall it is known for its extremely ripe and complex Riesling and Chenin Blancs and its fruit-forward Syrahs.
