Winery: Antigua Bodegas Stagnari
Grape: Marselan
Vintage: 2020
Winemaking: Classic in stainless steel tanks. Fermentation 15 days at controlled temperature.
Tasting notes: Bluish violet color with aromas reminiscent of raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, plums, and notes of pepper. On the palate it presents an explosion of fruit, a spectacular, dense, and extremely juicy wine with a slight sweetness that makes it very pleasant.
Food Pairing: Meats with barbecue sauce, tacos, and being a young but powerful wine, it can be accompanied with somewhat spicy foods..
--------THE PRODUCER--------
Antigua Bodega Stagnari
Antigua Bodega Stagnari are actually one of the oldest wineries in all of Uruguay whom have had vineyards since the mid 1920s. It hasn't changed hands from the family Stagnari who set it up all those years ago and they are producing, now, some of the most exciting wines across the country, or arguably across south America.
--------THE GRAPE--------
Bordeaux Red Blend
This is the most famous red blend of them all: Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Just like in Bordeaux, where this blend originates from, you will almost always see Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot in the blend, too. Each grape brings its own special element to the overall wine be it acid, tannin, colour or aromatics.
--------THE REGION--------
Uruguay
Whilst it is still in its infancy it is now the fourth most important wine producing country in South America. The spicy and chunky reds made from Tannat are what has put it on the map.
