‘Sourced from the eastern part of Les Bessards, vinified with 15% whole clusters and matured two-thirds in barrels, of which 15% are new, with one-third in foudres, the 2023 Ermitage Le Pavillon wafts from the glass with aromas of violet, lilac, dark cherries, flowers and mulberries. Full-bodied, dense and concentrated, it’s built around a deep core of fruit framed by velvety, precise tannins, segueing into a long, saline and perfumed finish. Suave and harmonious, it should gain further exuberance with time in bottle. It's a profound young wine. 2029 – 2048.’ – Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate, 98/100
‘Beautifully perfumed, with violets and juicy black fruits. Very smooth in tannin, actually quite soft, it's approachable for Les Bessards. WIth its tangy plum sauce, the Pavillon style is identifiable, but it's perhaps not quite as pure and elegant as the finest vintages; nonetheless, very good indeed. 15% whole bunch. 2030-2041.’ - Matt Walls, Decanter, 96/100
‘The 2023 Ermitage Le Pavillon is a little closed at first, but with a bit of aeration black fruits, softly pronounced licorice and smoky nuances begin to emerge. Full-bodied, rounded and strikingly energetic, it pulls the palate forward with precision and a fresh bite on the long finish. There is a sense of tension here that suggests even greater complexity waiting just beneath the surface. 2029 – 2040.’ – Nicolas Greinacher, 94+/100
‘Black core with purple rim. Intensely pure black fruit, dense and concentrated on the nose with a strong charry/meaty and smoky savour, yet no lack of black fruit at the core. The texture is highly distinctive: compact chalky tannins, so fine you do not feel the grain but so dense they are firm and resistant. Overall this is much less charming the Le Méal but somehow more serious. A minerally dry aftertaste that is confident but not trying to be alluring. 2030 - 2045.’ - Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5++/20
