The Elegant and Classic category is defined as a wine showing a timeless, refined and luxurious quality. Judges described Esses Encore 2016 Vintage Brut Cuvée as “Full bodied and balanced acidity. Buttery, pastry with hints of oak and minerals with a creamy finish.”

Glass of Bubbly said: "Each wine is judged not only on visual, aromatic and flavour qualities to receive a medal score, they also go through a second judging process in order to place them within an easy to understand for consumer category. The best scoring wine in each category judgement gets to take home the relevant trophy."

Over 75 months on lees with 12 months under cork. aromas and toasted hazelnut brittle, nougat, ripe figs and hints of vanilla. Rich and decadent with depth and luxury. Flavours of citrus preserve and orange marmalade, ripe melon, quince paste and lengthy long grapefruit palate.

Esses Estate is a premium grower-producer creating sophisticated, late-disgorged sparkling through traditional French methods. Each vintage showcases the essence of the season and the estate on which it is grown.

Esses Estate nestled at the base of the snow-capped peaks of Mt Fyffe in Kaikoura. The stony soils heat up during the day and the gentle sea breezes providing cooling influences, creating a stunning long ripening period. 

Esses name simply meaning plural of “S” and celebrates the terroir and natural influences of the vineyard and of course the Skinner name, all of which begin with the letter ‘S.’ 

Mel and Aaron are passionate sparkling lovers and having searched the world found a gorgeous little plot of vines located in the magnificent foothills of Kaikoura. 

Esses is the only vineyard with Kaikoura township and specialises solely in Méthode Traditionnelle.
