"A delicious blend of Brancellao, Caiño and Souson, autochthonous Galician varieties.  With good acidity and an elegant structure.  Bright ripe red fruit. "

--------THE PRODUCER--------

Finca Viñoa

Is located in Bangam D.O. Ribeiro, province of Ourense.

Finca Viñoa is an ambitious project started 20 years ago by José and Javier González. Their aim was to recover the terroir and the grapes of the region. They spoke to the elderly from each village, visiting the farms that gave the region its fame and fortune. This way, they began to rebuild plots in 2001.

They currently work with more than 20 hectares divided into three farms, Finca do Cabildo, Sobreiriña and Finca Viñoa. This last one gives the name to the project.

Once the vineyards were recovered, in 2011, with the vinification of their first white wine Finca Viñoa, they started to produce unique wines of the highest quality.

Finca Viñoa Tinto is made from Caiño Longo, Souson and Brancellao from the farms Finca do Cabildo and Finca Viñoa.  Vines were 13 years old on soils comprised of granite sands and slate schists.

Grapes are manually harvested and placed in small boxes. Once the harvest arrives at the winery, the grapes remain in a cold chamber at 5ºC for 12 hours. After being selected on a vibrating selection table, the grapes a de-stemmed by hand. All the grapes are placed in stainless steel deposits where they undergo a cold maceration for 12 days. Once the maceration has finished, it goes through alcoholic fermentation in 500-litre barrels. The ageing will depend on each vintage.

Finca Viñoa Tinto is a complex, fluid and amiable wine. It stands out for its fruitiness and a marked mineral character, which make it a true reflection of the terroir where it is born.

--------THE GRAPES--------

Caino Longo, Brancellao, Souson

These are classic indigenous varieties from Rias Baixas.  These are planted in one vineyard and the wine is a 'field blend'.

--------THE REGION--------

Rias Baixas

Rias Baixas is a region in Galicia in northwestern Spain. It is a lot cooler than the majority of Spain so is perfect for white grape varieties. The leading grape variety is Albarino though Loureira and Godello are important too. The fair majority of the wines are made exclusively from Albarino making wines that are crisp with acidity and aromatics that centre around citrus and stone-fruits.
