Gruner Veltliner
Gruner Veltliner is a white grape variety of Austria. It is quite an old variety that was first mentioned in the 18th century. It is a grandchild to Pinot Noir.
Gruner Veltliner is practically synonymous with Austrian wine. It is the most planted grape in Austria making up a third of the total vineyard area, equating to 17,034ha of land across the country. Austria has unlocked the ability to make Gruner Veltliner in a variety of styles, the top wines being able to compete with the very best Chardonnays of France.
