KUSUDA SYRAH 2021

Dates harvested: Sugar level (Brix): 21 – 22

Alcohol: 12.6%

8&9th April. Harvested by hand with rigorous selection

Total Acidity: 5.6g/l

pH: 3.63

Vinification: 91% destemmed without crushing, cold soaked for 3 days. Fermented in open

stainless-steel vats with pumping-over and hand plunging, total period of

maceration for 30 days. Aged in French (17% new) oak barriques for 24

months. Unfined and bottled after coarse filtration.

Bottles produced: 1,728 x 750ml, 15 x 1,500ml

Remarks: Very warm and wet spring. A patch of bad weather at the flowering resulted

the poor fruit set, causing big crop reduction. Summer was warm/hot but

regular cold breaks in February followed by dry and mild March, which kept

the balance of freshness & ripeness. 13.5hl/ha.

Dates harvested: Sugar level (Brix): 20 – 22

Alcohol: 12.3%

17 - 18th April. Harvested by hand with rigorous selection

Total Acidity: 6.1g/l

Vinification: 100% destemmed, cold soaked for 3-10 days. Fermented in open

stainless-steel vats with pumping-over and hand plunging, total period of

maceration for 24 - 31 days. Aged in French (22% new) oak barriques for 20

months. Unfined and bottled after coarse filtration.

Date of Bottling: 27. Feb.2025

Bottles produced: 2,585 x 750ml, 20 x 1,500ml, 3 x 3,000ml

Remarks: Normal start of the season followed by warmer November. Getting more rain

than usual from December on and hit by Cyclone Gabrielle in February.

Syrah was less affected by the rain events which happened when the veraison

only started and the berries were still hard. Somewhat cooler summer but

warm autumn weather compensated. 20hl/ha
