Marc Bredif, with its majestic cellars in the heart of the Touraine, has been one of the most famous Vouvray and Chinon houses since 1893. When Baron Patrick de Ladoucette took over the house in 1980, he breathed new life into the century old winery, while preserving its traditions. Today, Marc Bredif continues to produce Vouvray and Chinon wines of the finest quality. The history of the wines of Vouvray is directly linked to the religious history of Touraine. From the 4th century onwards, the monks owned most of the vineyards, including the best growths. The cellars of Marc Bredif are among the biggest and most beautiful of the appellation and the digging of the Tuffé hillsides to make them began in the 8th century.

The fruit for the Marc Bredif Vouvray Grande Annee 1990 was sourced from the vineyards of Vignes Blanches, Tabourneau and Mialet, growing on the slopes next to the banks of River Loire, in the communes of Vouvray and Vernou sur Brenne. The vineyards enjoy a Northern/Southern exposure. and the soils are mainly chalk clay, with some parcels having flint clay soils. The vineyards are 25-70 years old on average. The grapes are hand picked with two or three successive sweeps through the vineyards in order to select only the ripest grapes or those affected by noble rot. The wine is aged for one and a half years in vats, bottled and then aged the company’s cellars until release.

--------THE GRAPE--------

Chenin Blanc

Chenin blanc is a White wine grape variety from the Loire Valley of France. Its high acidity means it can be used to make everything from sparkling wines to well-balanced dessert wines.  Its second home is South Africa where it is the most-planted white grape variety.

--------THE REGION--------

Vouvray

Vouvray is a French wine appellation devoted entire to the Loire Valley's greatest white grape, Chenin Blanc. It is one of the world's great whites because of its versatility and its ageability; great Vouvray can age for decades and retain freshness, due to its high acidity, which acts as a preservative as well as providing succulence for juicy drink-me-now white wine styles too.
