"The Meerlust Cabernet Sauvignon has an intense, vivid purple colour with slight gradation at the rim. On the nose the wine shows intense cassis, plum and classic cedar wood-cigar box notes with lifted dark fruit aromas. On the palate the wine is full bodied and impressively structured. Intense blackcurrant and plum fruit bolstered by refined tannins and fresh natural acidity. The palate is rich and dense with a wonderful lacy tannic structure."

--------THE PRODUCER--------

Meerlust Estate

Meerlust has long been recognised for producing world-class wines. It was set up by the Myburgh family in 1756 and is proudly in the eighth generation. This historic winery has always insisted on being in total control of the wines from the vineyard to glass. This has lead to the winery only using grapes from their large estate's vineyards. The vineyards are planted on the hills overlooking False Bay, which gives cooling ocean breezes that slowly ripen the grapes giving concentrated and complex aromas.

--------THE GRAPE--------

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is the most famous red grape and also is the most planted grape varietal in the world. It is behind the famous 'Claret' wines of Bordeaux in France where it is blended in with Merlot in the famous 'Bordeaux Blend'. In the new world, it tends to grow best in the hot climates of California, Chile, Australia and Argentina. You can expect beautiful black fruit flavours from a Cabernet Sauvignon-predominant wine.

--------THE REGION--------

Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch is the leading quality region in South Africa. It is home to many of the most famous estates and many of the top wines. Generally speaking it is a red wine hub with Pinotage, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon at the helm, though recently more white wines are taking over.
