The Oamaruvian Revolution represents an exciting turning point for The NZ Whisky Collection: the first in our range of single malt whiskies produced and matured by us (Not from the Willowbank Distillery). Distilled on the South Island of New Zealand in two copper pot stills using 100% NZ malted barley. Matured in our Oamaru seaside bond store in small American oak, ex-bourbon casks and French oak, ex-New Zealand red wine casks. Resulting in a cornucopia of rich fruits and spices with a hint of Oamaru sea spray to finish.
--------THE PRODUCER--------
The New Zealand Whisky Co.
In 1997 the last whisky distillery in New Zealand was closed down, and the hundreds of barrels of Cask Strength whisky auctioned off or mothballed. In 2010, we bought the last 80,000 litres in 443 barrels from what had previously been stored in an old airplane hangar. The whisky now resides in the towering seaside bonds store in Oamaru. These are exceptionally rare drams from what was once the world’s southern-most distillery.
