Bright straw-yellow colour with light golden hues. The nose is full and lively with vibrant aromas of ripe savoury citrus fruits layered with harmonious notes of creamy barrel-ferment, nutty oak and subtle flinty lees and reductive notes. The aromatics build in depth, breadth and complexity in the glass. Medium-full bodied, the palate is intense and deeply concentrated with flavours of ripe citrus and savoury stonefruits entwined with mealy and nutty oak layers. The creamy barrel-ferment lends richness and unctuousness, unfolding flinty lees and toasty oak. The mouthfeel is openly accessible, but carried by a fine structured, concentrated core and line with fresh, enlivening acidity. The palate carries to a long, lingering, complex nuanced finish with citrus fruitsm nuts and toasty oak. Match with roasted poultry and pork over the next 5-6 years. Mendoza clone fruit from the ‘Riverview’ vineyard, hand-picked, 50% foot-stomped with stems and soaked 3 hours, and 50% WBP. The wine was indigenous yeast barrel fermented with full solids in puncheon to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in oak with MLF conversion. Only new puncheons were selected for the blend.

--------THE PRODUCER--------

Tongue in Groove

Tongue in Groove is the brainchild of Angela Clifford and Lynnette Hudson. The former being a goddess of the garden and the latter being the queen of Riesling. Both incredible women who felt that is about time that they started their own wine label making fun, delicious wines from their favourite part of the country: Waipara.

--------THE GRAPE--------

Riesling

Riesling is known as one of the most versatile and interesting grapes in the wine world. It is capable of a highly varied range of aromatics, perhaps more so than any other grape, from floral to tropical, stonefruit to citrus, nutty to spicy, mineral to sweet. Germany is it's home and also where 2/3s of the world's planting of Riesling is found.

--------THE REGION--------

Waipara

Waipara is one of the premium wine regions in New Zealand located just outside of Christchurch in the south island. It is known for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and aromatic grapes with Riesling being at the forefront. With an array of limestone soils strewn across the region it is believed to be the best region for Pinot Noir (and most Burgundian) in the country.
