Albarino/Alvarinho

Albariño is a vibrant, aromatic white grape from the Atlantic coast of north-west Iberia, where it's known as Albariño in Rías Baixas in Galicia, Spain, and as Alvarinho in Monção e Melgaço in Portugal's Vinho Verde region. It makes crisp, dry whites with lemon, grapefruit, peach and apricot, often with a distinctive saline, sea-spray edge and a touch more weight than you'd expect from such a fresh style. It's also grown in New Zealand, Australia and California, and is a classic match for oysters, shellfish, grilled fish and ceviche.
