"A touch of raspberry, cracked black pepper and just a faint hint of charcoal. This is a very cerebral Porseleinberg. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, outstanding structure, broody black fruit and gentle grip, and the schist soils are very expressive on a finish that feels fresh but extremely complex."

--------THE PRODUCER--------

Boekenhoutskloof

Boekenhoutskloof is a leading estate in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa. Although the estate was established in 1776, it was in need of restoration and replanting all of which took place in 1993. They decided to plant: Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Semillon and Viognier.

--------THE GRAPE--------

Syrah/Shiraz

Both Syrah or Shiraz is the name given to this grape varietal depending on where you are in the world. In France, particularly in the Rhone Valley, it goes by the name of Syrah and it makes the floral reds of Hermitage, Cornas, St Joseph and Cote Rôtie. Whereas in Australia, particularly in the Barossa Valley, it is Shiraz and it produces bolder, spicier and oaky red wines.

--------THE REGION--------

Franschhoek

Franschhoek is the small sub-region in the larger area of the Paarl District. Franschhoek, and Paarl, have very long and hot summers that make it ideal for growing 'hot-climate' grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah - all of which produce very fruit-forward and ripe wines.
