Leafy berry aromas are to the fore, due to the wine being majority Cabernet Sauvignon. A lovely mid-depth colour with youthful tints. Ripe Cabernet fruit complimented by the spice and plushness of the Shiraz component. Fine long tannins and acid line will see this age well over the medium term. A lovely drinking wine as always.
--------THE PRODUCER--------
Brokenwood
Established in 1970, Brokenwood Wines has evolved from a weekend venture for self-professed hobby winemakers into one of Australia’s most reputable wine labels. Based in the Hunter Valley where they started off with 10 acres but over time due to their success certainly proved to not be enough land they now have expanded but have continued their legacy as a top quality winery.
--------THE GRAPE--------
Cabernet Sauvignon
Cabernet Sauvignon is the most famous red grape and also is the most planted grape varietal in the world. It is behind the famous 'Claret' wines of Bordeaux in France where it is blended in with Merlot in the famous 'Bordeaux Blend'. In the new world, it tends to grow best in the hot climates of California, Chile, Australia and Argentina. You can expect beautiful black fruit flavours from a Cabernet Sauvignon-predominant wine.
--------THE REGION--------
Hunter Valley
Hunter Valley is Australia’s oldest viticultural area dating back to 1847. Located inland from Newcastle in New South Wales, the region’s loamy vineyards are located at between 100 and 240 metres above sea level. Sémillon and Shiraz are favoured, the finest Sémillon having an almost limey, hay-like purity.
