"Bright red and garnet with a rim turning to brick showing its extended aging in barrel and bottle. Complex aromas from its development and aging, mature ripe black fruit, and vanilla and cinnamon spice, with a deep mineral core. Velvety smooth, harmonious with a fresh finish."
--------THE PRODUCER--------
Carlos Serres
In 1896, a Frenchman named Charles Serres settled in Haro with the aim of producing wines using the experience he had already gained in France and the knowledge he was acquiring in La Rioja. This blend led him to create a style of his own which has lasted until the present in the new facilities that replaced the bodega in Barrio de la Estación in order to keep his traditional winemaking techniques up to date with new technology.
--------THE GRAPE--------
Tempranillo
Tempranillo is one of the most important grape varietals in all of Spain where you might also know it as Tinto Fino - like it is in Portugal. Most notably it is the leading grape of Rioja's red blend where it was traditionally quite an oaky and spicy red wine. In Ribera del Duero, it arguably, comes into its own as it doesn't see as much oak so that you can truly get to see its lively red fruit flavours.
--------THE REGION--------
Rioja
Rioja can quite happily be called the heart of Spain's wine industry as it is producing some of the most classic wines in the country and has been doing it for quite some time now. The oldest vines are thought to date back to 2BC. Modern Rioja (Post 1850s) was actually created by French winemakers who were fleeing from the phylloxera louse that ate up their vineyards in Bordeaux, and came to Rioja for its perfect wine-growing climate in hopes to find the 'next Bordeaux'.
