Castello di Verduno Pelaverga Basadone is a red wine made by Castello di Verduno with the native Pelaverga variety in the DOC Verduno, in Piedmont, Italy.

Castello di Verduno, once owned by King Carlos Alberto de Saboya, has been making great wines from the best Nebbiolo vineyards since 1838. The estate is now owned by the Burlotto family who continue to produce noble red wines made through a wonderful combination of tradition, natural methods and great skill. They also champion the native Pelaverga variety.

Having planted the first exclusively Pelaverga vineyard in 1972 in the municipality of Verduno, Castello di Verduno Pelaverga Basadone comes from two splendid crus in Massara at 240 metres above sea level, and Olmi at 340 metres. The vines are cultivated using traditional agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness.

In the winery, the Castello di Verduno Pelaverga Basadone grapes go through a process of fermentation and maceration for 8 days in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then refined for 8 months in these same tanks. Finally, it rests in the bottle for 3 months before being released for sale.

Named Basadone, “baciadonne” (lover of love) in the local dialect, the Castello di Verduno Pelaverga Basadone red wine is a tribute to the aphrodisiac power that popular tradition has always considered the recovered native Pelaverga variety to have.
