92 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark Aromas of wild strawberries and fresh pastry with dried flowers and fresh strawberry pastry. The palate has a silky, smooth and supple feel and a really fluid, textural build. Succulent yellow fruit to close. Blend of 51 per cent pinot noir and 49 per cent chardonnay. Drink now (JS). Inner quote mark (9/2018)

Outer quote mark From vineyards that are being converted to organic farming, the 2011 Ambonnay Grand Cru is a straw-golden colored blend of 51% Pinot Noir and 49% Chardonnay. By accident, I tasted the wine from two different disgorgements in early and late May, so not side by side. The Ambonnay that was disgorged in January 2017 is clear and floral on the nose, with delicate fruit and earthy flavors. It is a medium-bodied, round, elegant, highly finessed and perfectly balanced cuvée in a pure, lean yet charming and bright style, finishing with mineral grip and stimulating salinity. No sulfur added, no dosage. The same wine disgorged in December 2017 is intense and complex yet pure and fresh on the nose, revealing yeasty and nutty/almond flavors along with notes of lemon confit and mirabelles that make me long for oysters, anchovies or something similar. Polished, pure and fresh on the palate, this is a rich and pretty round but refined and airy Ambonnay with a stimulating bitter finish. Try it with white fish and herb veggies, and it should be even more brilliant (SR). Inner quote mark (8/2018)

--------THE PRODUCER--------

Champagne Marguet

The House of Marguet is one of Champagne's leading grower-producers. They are based in the Ambonnay region, one of the top Grand Cru sites in all of Champagne. The Marguet property was founded in 1870 by the Bonnerave brothers and it is now in the 5th generation of the family under the enthusiastic rule of Benoît Marguet-Bonnerave. What is interesting to note is that the vineyards on both the Grand Cru sites, Ambonnay and Bouzy, are farmed biodynamically and have been since 2009 - a rarity in the region.

--------THE GRAPE--------

Champagne Blend

It might not be obvious looking at a Champagne or any other sparkling wine made by the Methode Traditionelle method, but Pinot Noir is one of the main grapes in these fizzy treats. Along with Chardonnay which is equally important and Pinot Meunier, to a lesser extent. Pinot Noir helps to give body and aromatics, Chardonnay gives acidity and finesse and Pinot Meunier can help to add some body or colour.

--------THE REGION--------

Champagne

Champagne is the famous region that makes the even more famous sparkling wines: Champagne. These wines are made via the Methode Tradtionelle process where the finished wines will undergo a secondary fermentation in bottle to create bubbles.
