A 5eme Cru property which has been making a compe back in recent years.
From a block-buster vintage, the nose is enticing and elegant with dark berries and licorice. Delicate on the first sip, the energy and power builds on the palate, supported by ripe and silky tannins. A long but fresh finish.
A dense and layered red with wet earth and blue fruits. Sweet tobacco, too. Soft tannins give this full-bodied wine a juicy richness and decadence. Plump mouthfeel. So good now but better in two or three years.
James Suckling 93pts
Grape 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot

The Producer
Château Belgrave is one of the oldest wine properties in the Médoc, located in Saint Laurent, on the edge of the Saint Julien appellation, from which it is separated by a stream. Ranked as a fifth growth in the 1855 Haut Médoc classification due to the quality of its deep gravel terroir, Château Belgrave suffered greatly during the difficult period in the Médoc after the Second World War. Purchased in 1979 by an agricultural property group, its management was entrusted to the CVBG group (Dourthe-Kressmann) who immediately undertook a vast renovation programme.
