Selectively picked Te Awanga fruit from the superb 2019 vintage. Matured in seasoned oak barriques. Exhibits fragrant violets, highly concentrated blackberry & spice; hints of white pepper and a seasoning of finely textured smoky oak
Whole bunch fermented in an open-top vat with regular hand plunging. Ambient yeast create complexity & palate weight. Extended maceration for up to 4 weeks to extract all the wonderful tannins.
Syrah is a red grape variety. Shiraz and syrah are interchangeable. Generally, warmer-climate examples are named shiraz whereas cooler-climate versions are called syrah. There is always an exception though - in the South of France, which does have a warmer climate, the variety is called syrah. Take that Napoleon.

A relatively large and diverse region capable of producing a wide range of varieties to a very high standard, Hawke’s Bay is best known for its Red Blends and Chardonnay but aromatic whites are consistently good and Syrah is incredibly impressive.
