Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor Jr. is a celebrated figure in the whiskey world for fighting in favour of the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897 (a whiskey labelled as being “bottled-in-bond” must be distilled at one distillery in a single season, aged in a bonded warehouse for at least four years and bottled at 100 proof). This Act would help to establish a desire for quality among whiskey producers.
Now owned by Buffalo Trace, the E.H Taylor distillery still uses many of the methods pioneered by the colonel in the 19th Century. The Colonel E.H. Taylor 100 Proof Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey, distilled to 50% ABV, is surprisingly smooth and long with notes of butterscotch, orange peel and vanilla with a tobacco smokiness on the finish. An extremely high quality bourbon.
