-----ABOUT THE PRODUCER-----
Both Anna and I have lived and worked in Marlborough for most of our careers and in that time have been lucky enough to gain considerable experience growing, making and marketing Marlborough wine.
From our early days here we have always had a desire to start our own small wine business, established without compromise for quality and with complete authenticity.
Working together to create something in celebration of our families and their connection to the land, is very important to us.
Our ambition with all Corofin wines is to transmit a sense of place first, over fruit intensity or winemaking ambition. We have chosen to work with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay being the two varietals we believe will amplify the transparent expression we seek from the land.
-----TASTING NOTES----
The biodynamically-farmed Wrekin vineyard in the southern valleys of Marlborough is the focus for Mike Paterson in this wine while on his quest to highlight the greatest single sites in the region.
Smells of quality, and tastes the same. Citrus and nectarine fruit with some spice and ginger notes.
Palate is tight and rich in the same mouthful. There was full malolactic fermentation and the wine sat on its lees with not stirring or sulphur additions, but there is no real sense of oatmeal creaminess - it's taut and linear in feel, with the promise of opening up to come.
"Nectarine, green mango, grapefruit, a saline sort of fino edge here, and a little ginger and white pepper. Light, frisky, green apple and grapefruit, again quite saline and chalky in texture, quite the sappy and sapid thing, green olive, a subtle oatmeal creaminess, but it’s the salty and electric acidity that really drives it. And long too. Excellent. And very interesting to drink."
