"Our Pinot noir is not overtly fruity, soft and “sweet” and it generally shows hints of that alluring savoury “primal” character along with a dark, spicy, complex primary fruit perfume. As it opens up there is hints of wood smoke, vanilla, wild raspberry and concentrated strawberries. The palate is soft and sultry with unbelievably gorgeous texture. Long finish loaded with black raspberry and vanilla bean."

Given the hot vintage it is no surprise that this is one of the riper, fuller expressions of Hamilton Russell Pinot Noir, The nose is classic pinot with red-cherry notes combining with a touch of truffle and earthy characters. Warm and quite New World on the palate, there is still depth and lovely fruit purity here. Redcurrant and cherry combine with some spicy notes to keep everything fresh. A weightier, more forward style.

“Gorgeous, with a silky, persistent and racy structure guiding alluring rooibos tea, blood orange, damson plum and singed wood spice notes along.”

--------THE PRODUCER--------

Hamilton Russell

Hamilton Russell is the top winery of the Walker Bay region of South Africa. They are one of the southernmost wine estates in South Africa and are incredibly close to the sea. It is this cooling maritime influence, which helps to cool down their vineyards and enable their grapes to retain acidity, which provides freshness in the resulting wines. It was founded in 1975 by Tim Hamilton Russell who set up the property in the search of making South Africa's top cool-climate wines.

--------THE GRAPE--------

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir produces some of the world's most expensive, most lauded, rarest and delicious wines. Equally it is one of the most difficult grapes to grow successfully and as a result it is quite hard to make a balanced Pinot Noir. It is historically from Burgundy, most specifically in the Cote de Nuits, so much so that people will refer to Pinot Noir as a 'Burgundy'.

--------THE REGION--------

Walker Bay

Walker Bay is one of the coolest regions in all of South Africa thanks to the cooling influences of the Atlantic Ocean and False Bay. It also has a fairly high average altitude which means that the vineyards are higher and the growing season is longer - this gives complex wines with lots of aromatic development. It is producing, without a doubt, the best Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays in the country.
