Kanonkop 2020 Pinotage shows bold aromas of plums, blackberries, hints of liquorice and tar, layers of smoke, roasted nuts and rich vanilla on the nose. The palate is packed with flavours of plums, cherries, black figs, dark chocolate, blackberries and spicy oak. The beautifully integrated plush, creamy tannins with satisfying acidity result in a wonderfully balanced wine with a long finish, promising great maturation potential.

Food pairing: A fantastic food wine – serve with duck, game, lamb, smoked pork, seared game fish, spicy Asian-style dishes and aromatic curries

Ageing potential: 10 – 15 years from vintage, but can mature for longer under ideal conditions.

Alcohol: 14.3% ABV

--------THE PRODUCER--------

Kanonkop Estate

Kanonkop Estate is situated on the lower slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa. The estate is now in its fourth generation of the Sauer family and has recently been taken over by the capable and talented hands of Paul & Johann Krige. Over the last 40 years, Kanonkop Estate has earned a reputation for the best wines in the country - largely due to the great success of their Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon Blend: 'Paul Sauer'.

--------THE GRAPE--------

Pinotage

Pinotage is the red grape varietal of South Africa. In fact it was essentially created for South Africa in the 1920s by blending Pinot Noir and Cinsault. The idea was to get the lightness and aromatics of Pinot Noir and the heat-hardiness of Cinsault. Since then it has become the trademark red grape varietal of South Africa.

--------THE REGION--------

Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch is the leading quality region in South Africa. It is home to many of the most famous estates and many of the top wines. Generally speaking it is a red wine hub with Pinotage, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon at the helm, though recently more white wines are taking over.
