--------THE PRODUCER--------

Leeu Passant

In 2007 Chris and Andrea Mullineux established Mullineux Family Wines in the Swartland wine region of South Africa. For many years, our viticulturist, Rosa Kruger, had been enthusing to us about special parcels of vines outside the Swartland, but we couldn’t use these as our Mullineux and Kloof Street ranges are exclusively from Swartland vineyards. The partnership of Chris & Andrea with Analjit Singh in 2013, and the renaming of the company to Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines, opened the way for a new project – Leeu Passant – to be based at the wine cellar on Leeu Estates in Franschhoek.

--------THE GRAPE--------

Bordeaux Red Blend

This is the most famous red blend of them all: Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Just like in Bordeaux, where this blend originates from, you will almost always see Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot in the blend, too. Each grape brings its own special element to the overall wine be it acid, tannin, colour or aromatics.

--------THE REGION--------

Franschhoek

Franschhoek is the small sub-region in the larger area of the Paarl District. Franschhoek, and Paarl, have very long and hot summers that make it ideal for growing 'hot-climate' grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah - all of which produce very fruit-forward and ripe wines. That being said it is often the home to many aromatic white grape varietals as well as it is home to many shallow valleys and some higher altitudes, which allow for the vineyards to be placed in cooler spots perfect to grow white grapes.
