If you know Dreadnought then this is a pretty classic edition, gifted in the savoury elements with blue and black fruits, crushed flowers, graphite, a touch of liquorice and an earthy smoky lift. The palate is very classical with medium weight. Some sweet fruit will be evident in its youth but there is a long lean frame underneath. The tannins are influenced by stem inclusion which gives a fresh sappy introduction to the more robust seed and oak tannin. An excellent vintage and a wine to treasure.

--------THE PRODUCER--------

Man O War

Man O War is more than a winery, it is a bay with incredible historical ties back to Capt. James Cook as well as private holdings that back up what seems like the majority of Waiheke Island. It has vineyards all over their land which allow for each varietal to be at the best microclimate possible all in order to create some of the best wines on the island.

--------THE GRAPE--------

Syrah/Shiraz

Both Syrah or Shiraz is the name given to this grape varietal depending on where you are in the world. In France, particularly in the Rhone Valley, it goes by the name of Syrah and it makes the floral reds of Hermitage, Cornas, St Joseph and Cote Rôtie. Whereas in Australia, particularly in the Barossa Valley, it is Shiraz and it produces bolder, spicier and oaky red wines.

--------THE REGION--------

Waiheke Island

Waiheke Island is a 40 minute ferry ride from Auckland's main harbour and has a range of microclimates completely unique to the island. It is the home to many exciting wines but are the Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blends and the Syrahs that have put it on the map here and across the world.
