"The first impression is clearly a lovely, rich dark chocolate with attractive spicy support. There are nuances of black cherries, black berries and ripe plums. Slightly candy-coated tannins that create the impression of the interaction between fruit, acid and tannin. The black cherries on the nose come through to the palate as cherry kernels; marzipan and stone fruit. The finish is impressively long."
Morgenster Wine Estate
Morgenster Wine & Olive Estate are found in the region of Somerset West in South Africa, a mere 35 minute drive from Cape Town. The estate dates back to 1711 and is now producing internationally acclaimed Bordeaux-styled wines. The Lourens River Red is a particular highlights.
Bordeaux Red Blend
This is the most famous red blend of them all: Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Just like in Bordeaux, where this blend originates from, you will almost always see Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot in the blend, too. Each grape brings its own special element to the overall wine be it acid, tannin, colour or aromatics.
