The Family Vineyards Pinot Noir from Newton Johnson in Upper Hemel en Aarde sees multiple vineyard parcels combined for maximum complexity. Winemaking for the 2019 involved 20% whole-bunch fermentation before 11 months in barrel, 33% new.
The nose is expressive and compelling with notes of musk and rose before cherry and strawberry plus a slight fynbos note while the palate shows pure fruit, racy acidity and fine tannins. It’s as seductive as ever but a little more weight on the mid-palate might elevate it to even greater heights
Newton Johnson
A fantastic winery from South Africa's Walker Bay region. Newton Johnson are seen as producing some of the liveliest Pinot Noir and Grenache-dominant wines in the coastal regions of South Africa. You have to try their sweet wine too - utterly delicious!
Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir produces some of the world's most expensive, most lauded, rarest and delicious wines. Equally it is one of the most difficult grapes to grow successfully and as a result it is quite hard to make a balanced Pinot Noir. It is historically from Burgundy, most specifically in the Cote de Nuits, so much so that people will refer to Pinot Noir as a 'Burgundy'.
