Pale gold with silver streaks.
Aromas of gooseberries, sweet capsicum, meyer lemon, hints of basil and crushed tomato leaf combined with warm, wet river gravels.
Bright citrus, fresh granny smith, white nectarine with underlying tropical notes and crushed passionfruit seed on the reprise. All encased by a generous silken texture. The palate is washed over with a saline minerality to give a refreshingly dry savoury finish.
--------THE PRODUCER--------
The Bone Line
A group of very experienced North Canterbury winemakers are behind this new brand on Ram Paddock Road. Planting started in 1989 and there are now some 60 acres of producing vines. Soils range from river gravels with silt & limestone to alluvial loams over gravels. The blocks in the vineyard differ in height and aspect with the river terraces being partially encompassed by cliffs
--------THE GRAPE--------
Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir produces some of the world's most expensive, most lauded, rarest and delicious wines. Equally it is one of the most difficult grapes to grow successfully and as a result it is quite hard to make a balanced Pinot Noir. It is historically from Burgundy, most specifically in the Cote de Nuits, so much so that people will refer to Pinot Noir as a 'Burgundy'. Here the wines are light with an array of bright red fruit and floral flavours.
--------THE REGION--------
Waipara
Waipara is one of the premium wine regions in New Zealand located just outside of Christchurch in the south island. It is known for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and aromatic grapes with Riesling being at the forefront. With an array of limestone soils strewn across the region it is believed to be the best region for Pinot Noir (and most Burgundian) in the country.
