"Very dark dense inky colour with purple highlights. The bouquet is full and packed with aromas of dark fruits combined with black pepper, spice and liquorice that gives intrigue and character to Unison Syrah. A full bodied concentrated wine, the palate is full with flavours of dark plums, and black berry fruits. Layers of spice and black pepper mingle with dark chocolate and cedar."
Unison Vineyards
Unison Vineyards is the pioneers of the Gimblett Gravels region of Hawkes Bay planting back in 1993 – back before it was designated to be the winemaking hotspot of the country. Now it is managed by Philip and Terry Horn who have continued the success of the stellar winery and stay true to the initial inspiration for the vineyard. It was the free-draining gravel soils that the founders of the vineyard were so attracted to in the Gimblett Gravels, as they had worked in Tuscany for many years prior and knew just how crucial they were to Chianti’s success.
Syrah/Shiraz
Both Syrah or Shiraz is the name given to this grape varietal depending on where you are in the world. In France, particularly in the Rhone Valley, it goes by the name of Syrah and it makes the floral reds of Hermitage, Cornas, St Joseph and Cote Rôtie. Whereas in Australia, particularly in the Barossa Valley, it is Shiraz and it produces bolder, spicier and oaky red wines.
