New (in South Africa) to the B Vintners range as made by cousins Bruwer Raats and Gavin Slabbert is the Lone Wolf Cinsault 2019, grapes from old vines on Bottelary property Bellevue and winemaking involving 100% carbonic maceration.

The result is a particularly urbane and charming take on the variety. The nose shows cranberry, raspberry, rose and delicate notes of herbs and spice while the palate is light-bodied with bright, slightly sour acidity and powdery tannins, the finish nicely dry. Only 1 000 bottles made.

The Producer

B Vintners

B Vintners is one of the most exciting projects that are fuelling the gossip of the wine scene in South Africa at the moment. A project started up by the cousins; Gavin Bruwer Slabbert and Bruwer Raats. Their focus is on the history of wines and vines in South Africa and to show off their diversity. Essentially it is a collaboration that celebrates the lesser known - which makes it right up our alley!

--------THE GRAPE--------

Pinotage

Pinotage is the red grape varietal of South Africa. In fact it was essentially created for South Africa in the 1920s by crossing Pinot Noir and Cinsault. The idea was to get the lightness and aromatics of Pinot Noir and the heat-hardiness of Cinsault. Since then it has become the trademark red grape varietal of South Africa. It has been over the last couple of decades that producers are now starting to really create beautiful varietal wines that have a wide range of red and black fruit flavours.

--------THE REGION--------

Western Cape

The Western Cape is similar to Australia's 'South Australia' region - in the way that it is a legal region that allows for the wineries to source fruit from all of the sub-regions within the larger region.
