--------THE PRODUCER--------

Château de Cèdre

Château du Cèdre, in the heart of the Cahors appellation, must be regarded as the region's leading light; the refined Malbec grape reaches new heights here. Deep, dark and elegant, Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe’s wines reveal the superb terroir of their estate.

The vineyard is essentially organic without having the Ecocert stamp on the label. Since 1988, they practice environmental friendly viticulture: no herbicides are used, there is no spraying against rot and only organic compost is used. A small amount of Tannat and Merlot (5% each) is used in the regular cuvée (formally called "Prestige") but the flagship wine of Château du Cèdre is 100% Malbec.

--------THE GRAPE--------

Malbec

A black grape variety, Malbec produces in deep purple-red wines with full-bodied mouthfeel and abundant tannins.

Malbec wines contain deep dark fruit characteristics such as luscious cherry, blackberry and plum, with dark chocolate, pepper and vanilla aromas apparent on the nose.

Food matching

This powerful variety is well-matched with rich, robust Italian food, such as wild mushroom risotto, or can be perfectly paired with a tangy serving of Spanish Manchego cheese.

--------THE REGION--------

South West France

The south west of France is one of the most under rated regions of France. It is the home of Armagnac and Cognac but also the home of many amazing wine styles such as Petillant Naturals (here known as Methode Ancestrale). It is also home to famous wine regions like Jurancon and Cahors where leading sweet wines and pure Malbec red wines reside, respectively.
