"A really rather interesting white wine. It has a realm of fascinating flavours from quite herbal to very fruity. It starts off as dried apple and fennel seed to fresh apricots and white nectarine pith. Each sniff just like each sip is quite different."

--------THE PRODUCER--------

Monastero Suore Cistercensi Trappiste

Farmed organically on five hectares in the town Vitorchiano, in the region of Lazio. The nuns have been producing wines here for quite some time now as the vineyards were planted in the early 1960s. For a long time the wines weren't much to talk about but it was in the early 2000s when they asked Giampiero Bea, of Paolo Bea, to take charge of winemaking. No surprises that since they have gained fame across the world.

--------THE GRAPE--------

Trebbiano

Trebbiano is a white grape varietal that comes from the south of Italy, specifically from Abruzzo. It has been planted here for many hundreds of years, and still till this day Abruzzo is the home to majority of Trebbiano plantings in Italy. Trebbiano d’Abruzzo is the leading DOC region for the grape varietal of the same name.

--------THE REGION--------

Lazio

Whilst Lazio is home to famous white wines from the sub-regions of Orvieto and Frascati where the grapes of Trebbiano and Grechetto are king, it is also home to many stunning reds - especially so in the last 15-20 years.
