"This wine was made out of a desire to have a sweet red wine that wasn't as overwhelming nor as alcoholic as the fortified reds of Port (i.e. a Ruby Port) but had the cherry and red fruit flavours that only red grapes can give. It has a great nose of concentrated black cherries, black plums, dried red currants and creme de cassis liqueur. Sweet yet balanced on the palate with a bit of acidity that helps to bring it all together. A long finish with creamy coffee notes and black forest gateau. Great stuff!"

Naude Wines

Naudé Wines is the culmination of a journey that began more than 30 years ago. Since that first harvest I’ve worked all over the world hoping to craft wines that tell a story of time and place. I love the diversity we have in South Africa. Not just of the people but the soils the microclimates and the wine varietals that thrive under their own unique conditions. I’m fortunate to have been introduced to a few of these vineyards and work with some of the wonderful grapes that they produce many of these from certified old vines. The grapes on these vines are storied complex and unique. Each year they represent something different – whatever nature allows them – and with any luck I don’t get in the way.

--------THE GRAPE--------

Mouvèdre/Monastrell

Mouvèdre is the third grape in the famous Rhone Red Blend; GSM, that is so often replicated across the globe - most notably in Australia (where it is also known as Mataro). Whilst it is usually seen as a blend with Grenache and Syrah in France, it is made as a stunning single varietal wine in Bandol in the south of France as well as a rosé wine. It goes by the name of Monastrell in Spain where it produces rich red wines in the regions of Yecla and Jumilla.

--------THE REGION--------

Western Cape

The Western Cape is similar to Australia's 'South Australia' region - in the ways that it is a legal region that allows for the wineries to source fruit from all of the sub-regions within the larger region. The larger region in this case is: 'Western Cape', and all the sub-regions cover every main growing area in South Africa.
