"A really juicy white wine that is packed to the rafters with tropical fruit flavours. Classic green fruits are here from the Sauvignon Blanc with green passionfruit and limes but the Semillon gives a true richness and stonefruit fleshiness - especially on the palate. It is juicy but has a crisp acidity to keep it lively, and in turn making it an excellent white wine for summer!"

A fantastic winery from South Africa's Walker Bay region. Newton Johnson are seen as producing some of the liveliest Pinot Noir and Grenache-dominant wines in the coastal regions of South Africa. You have to try their sweet wine too - utterly delicious!

 

--------THE GRAPE--------

Bordeaux White Blend

Lesser known to its red counterpart of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon as the Bordeaux Red Blend. However, the Bordeaux White Blend made up of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc is highly important as it makes the dry whites as well as the sweet wines of Sauternes. This blend be it dry or sweet is repeated the world over. Interestingly enough, Semillon is often the major part of the blend and Sauvignon Blanc is added in to give a bit of acid or heighten the aromatics.

 

--------THE REGION--------

Walker Bay

Walker Bay is one of the coolest regions in all of South Africa thanks to the cooling influences of the Atlantic Ocean and False Bay. It also has a fairly high average altitude which means that the vineyards are higher and the growing season is longer - this gives complex wines with lots of aromatic development. It is producing, without a doubt, the best Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays in the country.
