"This sets a benchmark for Kiwi sparklers with its delicate aromatic presence, a stylish robustness underpinning the exquisitely long flavours and cool, creamy acidity."

--------THE PRODUCER--------

Quartz Reef

It is now well established that Central Otago produces wines of outstanding varietal definition and Quartz Reef is no exception. Specialising in premium Methode Traditionnelle, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir, Quartz Reef showcases the proven winemaking talents of Austrian-born Rudi Bauer.

--------THE GRAPE--------

Champagne Blend

It might not be obvious looking at a Champagne or any other sparkling wine made by the Methode Traditionelle method, but Pinot Noir is one of the main grapes in these fizzy treats. Along with Chardonnay which is equally important and Pinot Meunier, to a lesser extent. Pinot Noir helps to give body and aromatics, Chardonnay gives acidity and finesse and Pinot Meunier can help to add some body or colour.

--------THE REGION--------

Central Otago

Central Otago is one of the most southerly wine regions in the world and it is most commonly referred to as Pinot Central, in New Zealand. It has a long history of winemaking dating back to the mid 1800s and in fact a 'Burgundy' from Central Otago won a gold medal in a Sydney wine competition in 1881. A few winemakers including Alan Brady helped to craft it into a leading Pinot Noir region for the world thanks to his fruit-bombs. Many fantastic aromatic white wines excel here also.
