A tumultuous series of civil wars for the English throne known as The War of the Roses spanned decades from 1455 to 1487, pitting the houses of Lancaster and York against each other. The conclusion of this strife came with the ascent of the Tudor dynasty, initiated by Henry VII, a Lancastrian, marking the start of a period of renewed stability and prosperity. Across the UK, the Rose & Crown, a name proudly borne by hundreds of pubs, stands as a symbol of this historical unification and peace following a turbulent and bloody era.
This modern take on the traditional Best Bitter brings modern British hops to the fore. We took a rich and biscuity malt base and laid down an assertive bittering addition of Admiral hops. This classic base was married with dry hop additions of newcomers First Gold and Harlequin to add notes of tangerine, marmalade and passionfruit.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
Small Gods is a brewing project based in Auckland, New Zealand dedicated to collaborative, historical and experimental brewing. Named in honour of the yeasts who make our beer possible and the inimitable Terry Pratchett.
The Small Gods team (Luke & Matt) aim to keep history alive by bringing ancient beer styles and fascinating legends to light with a modern twist. Our unique approach to brewing highlights the rare, weird and wonderful styles that are often left by the wayside and embraces new and experimental techniques and ingredients.
Our beers are also inspired by interesting stories from history and mythology with the names and themes of our beers showcasing these stories. These themes are translated into stunning art in partnership with the fantastic artists and designers who make our packaging possible.
Small Gods brew all around New Zealand with our friends at fantastic breweries who oblige us by collaborating on brewing the experimental and not-commercially-viable styles they're interested in.
