The 2019 Chardonnay Newton Johnson Southend was picked by hand and matured for 11 months in mostly 500-litre puncheons and some Burgundy barriques. It has a very cohesive bouquet, walnut, hazelnut and light flinty aromas joining the citrus fruit. The palate is well balanced with tropical notes (passion fruit, blood orange, mandarin) on the entry. There is plenty of energy coiled up in this Chardonnay, and superb tension on the finish. Excellent.” – Neal Martin, Vinous
Newton Johnson
A fantastic winery from South Africa's Walker Bay region. Newton Johnson are seen as producing some of the liveliest Pinot Noir and Grenache-dominant wines in the coastal regions of South Africa. You have to try their sweet wine too - utterly delicious!
Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir produces some of the world's most expensive, most lauded, rarest and delicious wines. Equally it is one of the most difficult grapes to grow successfully and as a result it is quite hard to make a balanced Pinot Noir. It is historically from Burgundy, most specifically in the Cote de Nuits, so much so that people will refer to Pinot Noir as a 'Burgundy'.
