Description

Selected from a small batch of ex-bourbon barrels, this Kilkerran 8 year old cask strength expression shows the wonderful old-fashioned characteristics of this Campbeltown distillery. Malty and biscuity to start, it builds on a leathery aroma, with pipe tobacco and afternoon high tea notes of sponge cake, clotted cream and key-lime pie. A warming touch of peated barley comes through as well, and that shows up on the palate, along with a flavour of banoffee pie, toasted marshmallows and a lovely earthy and herbal finish. At natural strength it is a hearty dram, which can be mellowed with a wee splash of water.

Kilkerran by Glengyles Distillery

The whisky made at the Glengyle [glen-gyle] distillery in Campbeltown is called Kilkerran, named after the Gaelic Ceann Loch Cille Chiarain which is the original name for the settlement where Campbeltown now resides. Glengyle has a rich and interesting history, originally built in 1872 by the Mitchell's of Springbank, it produced whisky until it's closure in 1925.
