--------THE PRODUCER--------

Matané

Matané Negroamaro is a joint project with friend Valentino Sciotti of Farnese and winemaker Filippo Baccalaro. The wines come from Salento, the southern-most part of the region, or ‘heel of the boot’. This peninsula is a land of extremes and dramatic beauty, stretching out between two seas. Lush, dark red soil bathed in Mediterranean sunlight; historic native varieties and superb old vineyards, constantly windswept by the salty air currents of the Adriatic and the Ionian seas.

--------THE GRAPE--------

Negroamaro

Not so bitter but definitely black, this grape from Puglia can make dense, powerful reds or delicate and pretty rosé.

--------THE REGION--------

Puglia

Producing wine since at least 2000BC, the flat coastal shelf Puglia, facing North East toward Greece, has so much history and cultural importance. The vineyards were wiped out by phylloxera in 19th century and an industry chasing quantity was re-established and only recently has that been addressed. 80% planted to red grapes, Puglia makes the most sweet wine of any Italian region.
