The most classic of Sardinian wines. A very fresh Vermentino di Sardegna DOC, proposed here by one of the island's symbolic wineries, Argiolas. We are talking about Merì, a fresh and perfumed white wine that comes from a super careful processing of the best Vermentino grapes, harvested in the winery's vineyards. Plants that grow on richly calcareous soils, producing bunches concentrated in terms of aromas and fragrances and rich in terms of acidity and minerality. To make the most of the initial fruit, all the initial operations, from soft pressing to natural decanting at controlled temperatures, are carried out in an oxygen-free environment. In reduction, as the technicians say. Fermentation, on the other hand, always takes place in a controlled environment and continues for about 15-20 days. The result is a white wine characterised by its classic pale straw yellow colour, with evident greenish inflections. The nose is intense, with primary notes, typical of the vine, of citrus and fresh fruit. In the mouth, however, one discovers with pleasure a wine characterised by a lively, fresh and savoury taste. A well-balanced and fine white wine, it is simply perfect as an aperitif, perhaps served with a plate of seafood and shellfish. On the table it goes well with sushi and sashimi but also with delicate white meat dishes. Even a simple grilled chicken is immediately tastier with a glass of this wine.

--------THE PRODUCER--------

Argiolas

Argiolas winery is located on the island of Sardinia off the coast of central Italy. The estate that Argiolas winery now call their top vineyard was once nothing but an olive farm until the very early 20th century. It all started when Antonio Argiolas decided to plant a row of vines on his property - not originally for commercial use. It wasn't until his sons came along that things got bigger and the vineyard expanded. The winery is now in the third generation and is producing some of Sardinia's top wines. The 'Korem' and 'Turriga' are particularly sought after reds.

--------THE GRAPE--------

Vermentino

Vermentino is a white grape variety that originates on the French island of Corisca. It has been planted in Corsica since the in the 13th century and over this time was brought to Piemonte, then later to Sardinia of Italy. It also has a fairly long history in the south of France, here known as Rolle.

--------THE REGION--------

Sardinia

Sardinia is the large island off the western coast of Italy. There are predominately two grapes producing wines here. The first is Vermentino - the racy and refreshing white wine that is akin to top-quality Sauvignon Blancs. The other is a red made from Cannanou - Cannanou is the Sardinian name for Grenache, and produces spicy red wines.
