"From Nicolas Bindi's home estate in Patrimonio, and the Carcu collection of parcels, these north facing organically farmed vermentino vines are on clay and limestone soils. This spent a few hours on the skins and before a native ferment in stainless. Clean, very marine, lively, and savoury, with melon, green and yellow apple, verbena, and seashells, finishing with a long, smoked stone finish. If you've eschewed vermentino for being too boring in the past, you need to taste this."

--------THE PRODUCER--------

Nicolas Mariotti Bindi

Nicolas Mariotti Bindi returned to Corsica after deciding that becoming a lawyer was not his true calling. He was seeking a life in the vines and quickly set about making it happen, first by way of Moulin-à-Vent in Beaujolais, and then with stages closer to home with Antoine Arena and Muriel Giudicelli before becoming head of viticulture at Domaine Leccia. Then, with the generosity of another producer, Domaine Orenga de Gaffory, he was given the opportunity to farm five hectares of vines and was able to produce his first vintage in 2007.

Flash forward to today and Nicolas has worked tirelessly to build the estate up to fifteen hectares of vines within the Patrimonio AOC, all certified organic. The vines are separated into four distinct terroirs.

--------THE GRAPE--------

VERMENTINO

Despite the typical light-bodied character of Vermentino, it’s actually quite complex to taste. This is because Vermentino has higher levels of phenols which contribute to its subtle bitterness on the finish–a taste often described as green almond. A glass of classic Vermentino will offer up lively aromas of pear, white peach, lime and pink grapefruit with subtle notes of crushed rocks and citrus zest. On the palate, Vermentino is almost always dry and somewhat oily with flavors of grapefruit and citrus, with a crushed rocky minerality and saltiness. On the finish, it can be a bit snappy with bitterness similar to the taste of grapefruit pith or, if it’s on the riper side, fresh almond.

--------THE REGION--------

Patrimonio, Corsica

The village of Patrimonio is one of the 8 municipalities of the Canton of Conca d'Oro.  It is in Upper Corsica just at the beginning of Cap Crose, in the region of Nebbio not far from Saint Florent (4km).
Its coastal area on the Gulf of Saint Florent begins at the estuary of the Fium Albino, a river that runs through the village of Farinole.

In the countryside there are many famous vineyards and a macchia with wild olive trees and brushwood.
