"Broad, round and rich, this wine holds its freshness close to its core. The vines are between 40 to 60 years old and find firm footing in mica schist soils that give rise to fruit that is focused, persistent and clean. A bit of bottle age brings amplified expression and targeted concentration."

--------THE PRODUCER--------

Ragotiere

With its two superb vineyard sites totalling 59 ha, Chateau de la Ragotiere produces rich and fat Muscadets, with great acidity. The potential of the vineyard has seen them plant Chardonnay, which has been a real revelation, the wines being similar to very ripe Chablis. Unquestionably Chateau de la Ragotiere is one of Muscadets Grand Cru, making complex and stylish wines.

--------THE GRAPE--------

Melon de Bourgogne

Melon de Bourgogne is now the fourth most planted white grape in all of France, almost solely in the Loire Valley. It is on the western coast of the Loire valley in a region called the Pays Nantais. The best wines are from the famous sub-region: Muscadet Sevre-et-Maine.

--------THE REGION--------

Loire Valley

The Loire Valley is in the north of France and with the exception of the Champagne region is the most northerly region in the country - this also makes it one of the most northerly wine regions in the world. Overall the Loire Valley is home to two main white grapes that make up the bulk of the wines produced here: Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc. Sauvignon Blanc makes crisp dry whites as does Chenin Blanc, but Chenin also makes off-dry to sweet and sparkling wines as well. The reds are light and fruity and are predominately made from Cabernet Franc or Gamay.
