Current Stock:

Intense ruby color, with a bright and luminous robe offering violet-blue and cherry nuances.

Timid, distinguished, and still somewhat reserved, the first nose gives a glimpse of truly wonderful promises ahead.

After airing, the wine progressively delivers its secrets and origins. The second nose expresses fruit (black currant, blueberry, cherry, blackberry, raspberry), and reveals hints of flowers (iris , violet, peony), plants (cedar, mint), and spices (pepper, clove, cinnamon).

A complex wine expressing the full Cabernet Franc fruit.

The attack is straightforward.

Stewed fruitiness brings thickness. Of pleasant acidity, aromas of eucalyptus and bergamot can be noted.
The overall aspect yields a supple, fine, and elegant wine with a long finish.

The Producer

Serious wines are produced at this estate run by the charismatic Thierry Germain.

His approach is closer to a Burgundy wine-maker than a typical Loire producer. This 50-acre domaine, situated in a superb viticultural location in the appellation of Saumur-Champigny, has been a winery since 1850. Germain, from a long line of Bordeaux winemakers, arrived here in 1991, attracted by the region’s perfect balance of grape varietal, climate and 'terroir', which he considers one of the finest in France. The vineyard is worked in a natural way with the goal of keeping the vine and the soil at its healthiest and Thierry has become a fully-fledged advocate of biodynamics. The harvest is manual, selecting grapes at their very ripest level. Vinification is handled in small batches with bottling un-fined and unfiltered. All of his wines are superb, but not easy to obtain because the demand for them is so great.

Domaine des Roches Neuves is located in the heart of the Loire Valley, in the village of Varrains, 5 km from Saumur.

The vineyard is spread over 61 plots, covering 28 hectares with the Saumur Champigny appellation for its red wines, and Saumur for its white wines.
