Sasanokawa Shuzo Co. Ltd was founded in 1765 and acquired a license to produce whisky in 1946. Since then they have been producing whisky as the oldest whisky distillery in the Tohoku area. this pure malt whisky uses 100% unblended malt whisky. The finished product is pure malt whisky of superior quality and mild character.

The Producer

Sasanokawa was actually one of the major players in Japanese whisky (alongside Nikka and Suntory) until the 1980s when sales began to decline. Unfortunately for them, just as Japanese whisky was starting to become the phenomenon it is now, disaster struck - in 2011 the Fukushima nuclear disaster happened and being less than 70 kilometres away, Sasanokawa lost almost all of their whisky stock. They are, rightly, proud of their history and have a reputation to protect, so while their whisky is currently a world blend you can be certain that the cask selection and blending prowess are top of the line.
